Gold Rush Adventure – When the World Rushed In! History San José - Sunday, July 20

Summer is a good time to have an adventure, and History Park will provide the backdrop. Join History San José at Gold Rush Adventure Day on Sunday July 20th, where friends and families can be a ’49er for a day.

Come join us for gold panning, butter churning, historic games, and craft activities for children ages 4-11 from the Gold Rush period. Children can get creative in our jumping frog contest, roping a “steer,” milking a “cow,” and participating in the pony express relay.

Families can learn about the perspectives of many cultures during the Gold Rush in the special presentation “When the World Rushed In.” In the Pacific Hotel, you will have the opportunity to meet Ann Bridges, author of the historical fiction eBook based on the Gold Rush era, Kit's Mine.

Lance Beeson and the New California Minstrels will provide a musical backdrop to the fun and games, but when your feet get tired, come inside to the Fox Den, and check out some of our gold rush videos.

There’s more than just gold to explore at the park -- take a ride on the trolley and give the handcar a try. Be sure to visit the Print Shop for a printing press demonstration, and explore the Fruit Barn, One Room School House, Umbarger House, and Dashaway Stables.

Be sure to drop in to the McKay Gallery at the Pasetta House to view the Shirlie Montgomery: Picturing San Jose Since 1938 exhibit.

History San José Members are free. All children 2 & under free; $5 for all other guests.
